PROSTATE CARE AND LASER CENTER
Russel Williams, M.D., a urologist in Houston, recognizes the problems that changes with the prostate can cause on a man through the different stages of his life. The prostate care center is designed to address those needs.
The prostate as it ages is more susceptible to diseases and problems. Men can have problems with the following:
- Prostate duct obstruction causing decreased fertility and genital pain (testes pain, bladder pain, penile pain, and prostate pain)
- Prostate infections and inflammation (e.g., acute prostatitis, chronic prostatitis) causing testes and prostate pain, poor erections, poor ejaculation, and painful urination
- Enlarged prostate (BPH/benign prostatic hypertrophy) causing difficulty with urination, poor or slow urination, or after urination dribbling
- Prostate cancer1
All these conditions require diagnosis and treatment to restore optimal general and sexual health.
Since prostate enlargement (BPH) is very common as men enter their 40's and 50's, many men will find they will need care from a doctor. Primary care physicians often offer medical treatments for the above conditions with varying degrees of success. Some men respond well to medical treatment but prefer to seek a treatment that allows them to be off long-term medications.
As a urologist, Dr. Williams can offer both optimal medical treatment2 and also minimally invasive in-office treatment for the prostate. In Dr. Williams' prostate care center, he offers laser treatment (Indigo) of the prostate that reduces chronic prostate enlargement and obstruction. Laser treatment of the prostate can relieve problems of prostate infections and inflammation (e.g., prostatitis). Laser treatment of the prostae allows 70-75% of men to be off long-term medication for prostate enlargement. The laser treatment is very well tolerated and associated with few side effects. A careful physician examination, blood testing and review of your past medical treatments will allow Dr. Williams to design an optimal treatment plan for you. You let him know which problem or goal from treatment is most important to you.

1Prostate cancer is detected through a blood test, prostatic specific antigen (PSA), and a digital rectal exam (DRE).
2Depending on the situation, medical treatment might include Flomax, Avodart, Proscar, Uroxatral, natural medications (homeopathic), and antibiotics.
